The Ultimate Bachelor Watch Party Dessert: Eligible Peanut Butter Pie Jars

There are some confessions that just have to be made, even if it means facing the playful disapproval of my five brothers. I can almost hear them now, a chorus of “Noooooooo, Melissa, don’t you dare!” echoing in my ears. But as usual, I’m going to forge ahead because some stories, like some desserts, are just too good not to share.
My confession is this: I have been an unwavering, dedicated fan of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette since its very inception. We’re talking about the early days, way back to the era of Alex Michel when the show was far from the pop culture phenomenon it is today. Before its stars graced the glossy covers of national magazines, I was meticulously setting my VHS recorder, ensuring I wouldn’t miss a single captivating second of my beloved show. It wasn’t just a show; it was an escape, a peek into the dramatic world of romance and televised heartbreak, all wrapped up in a neatly edited package.
My journey with Bachelor Nation began as a solo endeavor. I’d find myself passionately yelling advice at the screen during questionable decisions, shedding genuine tears when an epic proposal like Ryan and Trista’s unfolded, and, perhaps a bit optimistically, believing that each season might culminate in a true fairytale ending. After nearly two decades of a beautiful marriage, I still find myself deeply in love, so I wholeheartedly appreciate a good love story, no matter how dramatically presented.
It didn’t take long for my solitary viewing to transform into a vibrant social ritual. This was an age before the widespread influence of social media, so my recruitment strategy involved old-fashioned phone calls. I’d call friends, buzzing with excitement, to tell them exactly what incredible drama they were missing. I’d promise them a rollercoaster of emotions so intense they’d want to scream and cry simultaneously, assuring them they’d become deeply invested in the lives of strangers they’d never met. And I was always right.
In the early days, my persuasive tactics often included a crucial bribe: the promise of delectable, calorie-laden desserts! We’d gather, indulging in these treats without a second thought, fueling our emotional eating as we collectively reacted to every twist and turn, every brutal decision made on screen. These sweet incentives were the perfect accompaniment to the high-stakes romance and drama that unfolded before our eyes.

Over time, I earned a reputation as “the girl who threw the best Bachelor Finale parties.” (My brothers are probably shaking their heads in disbelief at my public admission right now!) What started as intimate gatherings slowly blossomed into quite the following. Soon, Monday nights became a sacred tradition. Every available seat on my couch was claimed, with friends bringing extra pillows, blankets, and, of course, their own decadent desserts to share. Our family room floor would be a sprawl of excited viewers, all eager to dissect every moment.
We’d hit pause countless times, meticulously analyzing every facial expression, every whispered word, every strategic move. This meant we rarely finished an episode before midnight. But the show was just the beginning. We’d stay up late into the night, talking, laughing, eating, and truly bonding. These women became my dearest friends. As the seasons passed, we navigated life’s many ups and downs together, our discussions extending far beyond just who received the final rose. We’d talk about the challenges of raising kids, our perpetual (and often futile) desires to lose weight (usually while devouring an entire pan of brownies), and even shared our deepest insecurities. It was real, authentic connection, and in a wonderfully ironic way, reality TV brought us closer as we shared our own realities.

I’ve never been one to back down from a challenge. My brothers, for years, delighted in teasing me about my Bachelor obsession. Then, a remarkable turn of events unfolded: I managed to hook them. Well, to be precise, two of them. The other three are still firmly in the head-shaking camp, but two out of five is a victory in my book!
Soon enough, my phone would buzz on Tuesday mornings with calls from my brothers, eager to dissect the previous night’s episode with me. The shared laughter and earnest discussions about rose ceremonies and hometown dates became an unexpected and cherished part of our sibling dynamic. It just goes to show that even the most unlikely people can be drawn into the irresistible pull of reality TV romance.
But the ultimate conquest, the peak of my Bachelor recruitment efforts, involved my dad. My dad is, without exaggeration, the biggest sports fanatic you could ever imagine. He’s the reason my childhood room was adorned with posters of Charles Barkley and Deion Sanders. Growing up, our entire household lived and breathed sports. He’s a walking sports almanac, capable of recalling any major life event by referencing the specific game he was watching at the time – I kid you not. After a long career as an executive, he now spends his retirement writing sports articles for the local newspaper. At 75, he’s a man whose habits are set in stone, the absolute last person on Earth I ever thought would be caught watching The Bachelor. Yet, miracles do happen.
Before you read the following email, it’s important to understand that my family thrives on playful banter and good-natured teasing. This email is a direct dispatch from my dad to the entire family, a testament to his unexpected conversion. Oh, if only I had the space to post my brothers’ priceless responses!

Hey, did you watch the Suns game last night? None of it. Forgot they were playing.
Well, did you watch Gonzaga dismantle St. Mary’s? I did watch a little at the end, after taking Mom out to dinner.
What was so big that I didn’t watch much of any sports stuff last night?
The Bachelor Final Episode.
To top it off, I dreamed about The Bachelor Program, and some kind of contests like it last night. Then I woke up this morning and got on the computer. Before I checked the BYU Sports sites, I checked Chris Harrison’s blog for his perspective on last night.
I am now officially turning in my Man Card. Guys, what am I going to do? What am I turning into? Or is it a payoff for all of the years of non stop sports stuff that I watch and talk about?
One final thing. How did you like that Des got picked for the next Bachelorette?

My dad’s transformation began during Sean Lowe’s season. Sean wasn’t your typical Bachelor; he was known for his strong moral values, his undeniable charm, and an overall class act. He was so compelling that I even convinced my husband to watch that season with us! So, when my dad tuned in for Juan Pablo’s season, he was utterly bewildered. “Whoa, wait a second. What’s going on here? I guess they aren’t all like Sean,” he exclaimed, struggling through that particular season. Thankfully, Ben Higgins came along as a breath of fresh air, winning him back over. I truly believe we owe Sean and Ben a huge thank you for solidifying my dad’s status as a Bachelor fan. And JoJo Fletcher? She was definitely a family favorite too, proving that even a die-hard sports fan can be won over by a compelling love story and, let’s be honest, a well-produced reality show.

Now, let’s get down to some serious business. Remember those treats I promised, the ones that became synonymous with our Bachelor nights? They couldn’t be just any ordinary dessert. We needed something special, something that mirrored the fun and ease of our gatherings. That’s how treats in a jar became a beloved staple.
