I am and have always been a big fan of Valentine’s Day. I know that sometimes it gets a bad wrap but my Mom always made it so special and it was more about expressing love to those around you. Growing up, my Mom and Dad would write down all of our best qualities on hearts and I would always feel so loved.

My Mom would always make heart shaped frosted sugar cookies with almond frosting. But she knew that my favorite candy in the world has always been M&M’s so she would make me special Valentine’s M&M cookies with pink, white, and red M&M’s.

I love these cookies since they have the perfect crisp, golden, buttery edges with chewy centers and filled with plain milk chocolate M&M’s. They are so easy to make! I have shared a classic M&M Cookie Recipe plus Christmas M&M Cookies as well.

Here is all you need to make Valentine’s Day cookies. The special red, white, and pink Valentine’s M&M’s can usually be found in the holiday section of your grocery store.

Cold Butter (cut into cubes): This helps to keep the cookies from spreading too much in the oven.
Brown Sugar

M & M’s: I suggest using the special Valentine’s red, white, and pink milk chocolate plain M&M’s.
Chocolate Chips (optional): If you would like extra chocolate, add in semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips. May add 1 cup of chopped pretzels for a salty crunch.

How to make Valentine’s M&M Cookies:

Preheat oven to 385 degrees. In large bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes.
Add eggs and vanilla.
Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt.
Stir in M & M’s. If using chocolate chips, add them in as well.
Chill the dough (if time allows).
Drop onto baking sheet. Bake for 9-13 minutes or until edges are slightly golden brown.

If you would like to freeze cookie dough, scoop the dough into balls and place on a baking sheet. Freeze until solid and then transfer the dough balls into a freezer-safe Ziploc bag. If you bake from frozen, add 1-2 minutes of baking time.

How can I make M&M cookies look more gourmet?

I suggest placing setting aside 1/4 cup of M&M’s for placing on top of the cookies as soon as you remove them from the oven. Also, use a small spatula to press the edges into the centers so the cookies are round circles.
